Alexander Joseph Ferrance

Alex J. Ferrance , 59, of Houston lost his battle with pancreatic cancer on Saturday, October 20, 2012. He was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., on January 8, 1953, the youngest child of Alex and Sadie Ferrance. He married Joanie Hasay on Feb 12, 1977. In 1982, they moved to Houston and made it their home . "Jesus decided that he would take Alex home to Heaven and heal his body as only He could." Al was a member of St Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. He graduated from Meyers High School in 1970. He was self employed as a General Contractor in Pa. and Houston until 1994 when he became employed at Rice University. Throughout his career, he maintained great pride in being associated with Rice University and cherished the many friends he made there. Being an inaugural season ticket holder, Al was an avid Houston Texans fan. He also loved his Rice Owls. He and his wife enjoyed travelling and he felt blessed that he took the opportunity to visit so many places in the United States, Caribbean, Mexico and Italy. Al was always ready to lend a hand to anyone! It can’t go without saying that his friends were many and the lives he touched, he did so deeply. His family, friends, neighbors and co-workers meant the world to him. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Joanie, and his beloved Scottish Terrier “Freeway”. He is also survived by his Mother, Sadie Ferrance of Wilkes-Barre, Pa.; Sister, Carolyn Lindeman of Wilkes-Barre , Pa.; Brother, Cyril Ferrance (wife Vicky), of Throop, Pa.; Brother Bob Ferrance (Fiancé Shelly) of Wilkes-Barre, Pa.; Sister -In -Law,. Mary Anne Klaips (husband John) of Dallas Pa.; Brother in Law, Joe Hasay (wife Teresa) of Arroyo Grande ,Ca. and a very dear friend of the family, Lori McKenna. He also leaves behind his nieces and nephews whom he loved very much,Tabitha Seigle, Todd Czubek, Robert Ferrance, Allcot Czubek, Stacey Ferrance, Gabe Lindeman, Jeffrey Ferrance, Carrie Lindemen, Jennifer Glahn, Jordan Hasay and Jedd Hasay. As well as many great nieces, nephews, relatives and dear friends whom he considered family. Al was preceded in death by his Father, Alex Ferrance; nephew, Chris Ferrance; Mother-In-Law Marcella Ceglarski; Father In Law, Joseph Ceglarski; Father in Law, Joseph Hasay and his Grandparents. A Memorial Service will be held at the Rice University Chapel, 6100 Main Street, Houston, Texas on Saturday, October 27, 2012 at 10:00 AM, with The Reverend Paul E. Lockey, PhD., Pastor of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church and Schools, Officiating. Friends may visit from 9:00 AM until service time. Immediately following the service a reception will be held at the Farnsworth Pavilion which is adjacent to the Chapel. Parking for the Chapel is at entrance (Gate 20), press the call button to inform attendant of attending the service, there will be no charge for parking. Visit www.Rice.edu for driving directions and map. The regular daily Mass held at St Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church on Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at 9:00 AM with the added intention for Alex. An additional Memorial Service will be held for family and friends in Pennsylvania on November 3, 2012, however arrangements are pending. The family would like to thank everyone for their kindness, support and care during Al’s illness. And a very special “Thank You” to Al’s Rice University family, Joanie’s Consolidated Communications family and VITAS Hospice.
