Cheryl Anne Johnson Watson

Cheryl Anne Johnson Watson passed away at her home in Houston, surrounded by her family, Tuesday, June 3, 2014. She was born in Austin, Texas on November 28, 1948 to Dorothy Hoch and Barry Johnson. She is survived by her parents; her loving husband, James (Andy) Watson; daughter, Tracy Dupre and husband Travis; grandchildren, Kyndall, Kennedy and Bryce; stepmother, Angela Johnson; brother, Lance Johnson; and sisters Karen Banks, Kathy Johnson, and Jessica Leighton, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Cheryl grew up in San Antonio and graduated from MacArthur High School and Texas Tech University. After an early career in banking she lived in several domestic and international locations supporting her husband in his career. An avid genealogist, Cheryl traced her family roots to the American Revolution and early Texas settlers. In 2000 she was diagnosed with a rare neurological disease, Multiple System Atrophy. Throughout the course of her illness, Cheryl was supported by her devoted husband and family. The family would like to thank all of the dedicated caregivers, doctors, and Houston Hospice who helped give Cheryl the best quality of life possible. Special appreciation to Dr. Madhureeta Achari, Cheryl’s nurse Cecelia Gordon and housekeeper Norma Vallejo for their support throughout the long illness. Cheryl had a mischievous twinkle in her blue eyes and a wonderful sense of humor that attracted a wide circle of friends. Her family was her treasure and she most enjoyed spending time with her daughter and grandchildren whom she adored. Cheryl was a loving and generous person who will be remembered for her strength, determination, grace and elegance. She loved the beauty of nature and all of God's creatures. The Watson family will be present to receive friends Sunday, June 8, 2014 from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM at Dettling Funeral Home, 14094 Memorial Dr., Houston, TX 77079. A memorial service celebrating Cheryl’s life will be held Monday, June 9, 2014 at 1:00 PM at Memorial Drive United Methodist Church, 12955 Memorial Dr., Houston, TX 77079. A reception will follow the service in Friendship Court within the church grounds.
