Danny Arthur Perry

Danny Arthur Perry, loving son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend, went to be with his Lord on the 20th of June, 2010, after leading a valiant battle against colon cancer. Danny was predeceased by his mother, Mary Lee Perry; brother, Mickel W. Perry, Sr. and nephew, Mickel W. Perry, Jr.. Danny is survived by his father, Curtis Perry, Sr.; brother, Curtis Perry, Jr.; sister-in-law, Wilda L. Perry; uncles, Roy Perry (Rose Marie) and Elbert Perry ( Elesia); nephew, Herman Perry; nieces, April Perry and Toni Lee; and many other beloved family members. He is also survived by a huge number of friends from grade school, junior high and high school. Danny was born in Houston, Texas, on the 8th of January, 1962. He accepted Christ at an early age. He was baptized at New Elijah Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor Albert Kelly. Danny attended Piney Point Elementary, T.H. Rogers Jr. High School, and Robert E. Lee High School. He went on to work for Mustang Tractor and Adobe. Some of Danny’s fondest memories were of his school days. Whether in the hallways, classrooms, or on the football field, he always had a kind word and a great big smile for each person that he crossed paths with. He had a deep booming laugh that was unforgettable. Danny could remember things and tell stories about those days that no one else ever could. Even when he was going into hospice, he continued to help others with the facts. Danny was a man of exceptional character that viewed the world through eyes of faith and kindness. Every person who was fortunate enough to know Danny was truly a better person for having done so. In that loving spirit that he was known for, Danny gave credit to his dad, Curtis, for teaching him how to follow the right path in life, and ultimately, how to be the man that he turned out to be. The family would like to thank, Dr. Mark D’Andrea, M.D., Dr. Ajay Mitter, MD, John Karas, and the staff of Gulf Coast Cancer and Diagnostic Center, Dr. Cristin Swope, MD, his caregivers at Park Plaza Hospital, and especially the amazing caregivers at Houston Hospice. We would also like to thank some of Danny’s special friends who have acted as his main caregivers for the past year: Andrea and Jim Snoddy, Blake Pfeffer, Gib Surles, John Karas, Jay Williams, and Kirk Laguarta. A visitation for Danny will be held Saturday, June 26, 2010 from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM at D.M. Dettling Funeral Directors, 14094 Memorial Drive. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 26, 2010 at 11:30 AM at Memorial Drive United Methodist Church, 12955 Memorial Drive. The Reverend Collin Taylor and The Reverend Reginald Houston will officiate. An internment service will follow via funeral cortege at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery, 12800 Westheimer Road. A reception will follow in the Church Hall of St. Basil The Great Greek Orthodox Church, 1100 Eldridge Parkway. Many thanks to David Dettling of D.M.
