David L. Pierce

David L. Pierce died peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, the 7th of December, 2023 in Houston at the age of 94. He was a much beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend and will be greatly missed by all who had the joy of knowing him. David was born on the 18th of February, 1929, in San Marcos, Texas to Howell B. Pierce and Hazel B. Pierce. David moved to Nixon as a child with his family and graduated from Nixon High School in 1946 and from the University of Texas in 1949 with a Bachelors degree in Business Administration. After graduation from the University of Texas, David worked for the securities firm Lentz, Newton & Co. in San Antonio before he was drafted into the U.S. Army. David served as company clerk in D Company, 41st Armored Infantry Battalion, 2nd Armored Division while stationed in West Germany, After his honorable discharge, David began a 38-year career with the Prudential Insurance Company of America in the Real Estate Finance Department. Shortly after joining Prudential, David married the love of his life, Verdalee “Vee” McCullough. They were happily married for 65 years until Vee’s passing in 2019. They were blessed with three children, and later blessed with five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. David’s children were his pride and joy, and his grandchildren were adored beyond measure. David was a devoted caregiver to Vee during the last 14 years of her life. David was predeceased by his parents; his brothers, Hal Weber, and Richard Pierce; his sister-in-law, Barbara Pierce; and his wife, Vee Pierce. David is survived by his children; son, Steve; son, Andy; daughter, Jennifer; granddaughter, Megan Rosenbaum (Randy); grandson, Matt Pierce (Candice); grandson, Michael Pierce (Grace); granddaughter, Machaela Pierce; grandson, Hamilton Pierce; seven great-grandchildren; two nieces and a nephew. The Pierce family will be present to receive friends on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a Rosary Service at 7:00 PM at Dettling Funeral Home, 14094 Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77079. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at 10:30 AM at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 625 Nottingham Oaks Trail, Houston, TX 77079. Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family at the reception in Saint Jude Hall at St. John Vianney Catholic Church. Honorary pallbearers include Matt Pierce, Michael Pierce, Hamilton Pierce, Jeff Pierce, David Bentz, and Randy Rosenbaum. David will be laid to rest in a private family gathering following the reception. In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions in David’s name can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, St. Jude Hospital, the Smile Train, or a charity of your choice.
