Edwina Breaux Staudt

Edwina Breaux Staudt, 91, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2022, in Houston, TX where she has resided since 2016. Edwina, the second of five children, was born July 7, 1930, in Port Arthur, Texas to Edward Paul and Florence Tibbitts Breaux. She grew up in Bridge City, TX. She attended Lutcher Stark high school in Orange, TX, through her sophomore year and was graduated from Bishop Byrne high school in Port Arthur. Edwina then attended Southwestern Louisiana Industrial Institute (now ULL) on a chemistry scholarship. Edwina married the love of her life, Joe R. Staudt, in 1950. They made their home in Orange, TX and lovingly raised three children. Edwina had many professional roles throughout life including lab employee, bank teller, bookkeeper, teacher, and executive secretary. Although she worked at a variety of businesses and institutions, her longest tenure and ultimate retirement was with Chevron. Edwina will be remembered as someone who had a big smile and kind words for everyone she would meet. She made you feel you were the most important person in the room regardless of status. Also, many friends, relatives and acquaintances fondly remember receiving her beautifully worded handwritten notes in perfect penmanship filled with words of encouragement, gratitude and/or faith filled messages. Her strong Catholic faith and her beloved extended family were the 2 most cherished things in her life. Edwina was a good and faithful servant of God. And, as the matriarch of her extended family, Edwina had a flair for entertaining and was known for hosting elaborate holiday and special occasion celebrations. Edwina was gracious, loving, generous, beautiful inside and out, and was often the best dressed lady in the room. She loved butterflies, hummingbirds, flowers, and the color pink. She was an avid reader, enjoyed playing bridge, and dancing with “My Sweet Joe”, her spouse with whom she shared 56 years of marriage until his death in 2007. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joe; her brother, L. O. Breaux; and sister, Mary Katherine Golden. Left to cherish her memory are her 3 children (and spouses), Keith J. Staudt, Sr. (Patsy) of Orange; Kathleen Staudt Conn (Jesse) of Hemphill, TX; and Diane Staudt McDaniel (Pat), of Houston; grandchildren Mark Staudt (Amanda); Jeff Staudt (Randi); K. J. Staudt, Jr. (Danielle); Kinsey Staudt; Michael Gault (April); Stephen Gault (Rachel); Sherry Conn Cooper (John); Lisa Conn Hlavinka (Byron); Julie Conn Bejar (Uriel); Gary Conn (Emily); Angela McDaniel; 15 great-grandchildren; sisters, Joyce Breaux Lopez (Fred) and Beverly Breaux; 5 nieces and nephews; 4 great-nieces and nephews. Services will be held Monday April 4, 2022, with visitation 5:30-7:00 PM with a Rosary to follow at Dettling Funeral Home, 14094 Memorial Drive Houston, TX 77079. Mass of Christian Burial will take place the following morning, Tuesday, April 5, 2022, at 10:30 AM at St. John Vianney Catholic Church 625 Nottingham Oaks Trail Houston, TX 77079. Following Mass, Edwina will be laid to rest at 3:30 PM at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, 4560 HWY-87 S Orange, TX 77630. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting a charitable donation be made in memory of Edwina Staudt to: St. Mary Catholic School, 2600 Bob Hall Rd, Orange, TX 77630, or Raise Up Families (a local Houston charity) at www.raiseupfamilies.org
