George Joseph Koch

George Joseph Koch died peacefully on Sunday, January 8, 2023 surrounded by his family in Houston Texas at age 97 and a half. George was born June 11, 1925 in Brooklyn, NY to George and Mary Koch. George married the love of his life Maureen on January 17, 1948. They moved to Texas in 1966 where they raised their beautiful family. George is survived by his brother, Charles Koch; children, Maureen Miller and husband Rusty Miller, George Koch and wife Elsie Koch, Gary Koch and wife Susan Rice, Denise Greene, Greg Koch, and Tricia Koch; loving grandchildren, Tres’ and Nikki Miller, Christopher and Mollie Miller, Jonathan Greene, Jacob and Chelsea Koch, Joseph and Brooke Koch, Joann Koch, and Kendall Greene; and blessed with great-grandchildren Mason and Max Miller and Caroline Grace Koch. He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years Maureen Koch, his sister Joan Koch, and his parents. George graduated from the University of Virginia and was immediately commissioned to the United States Navy where he served active duty during WWII and the Korean War and continued Reserve duty for 20 years. Following his Naval service, he received his MBA at New York University. Along with a 40-year career with Exxon USA in the treasury department and raising his family, he was very involved in the community; Founding member of St John Vianney Catholic Church (usher and CCD teacher), Founding member of Nottingham Forest Civic Association, Stratford High School Spartan, and Spartanaire Booster Club member (treasurer) and a coach of various football and t-ball teams. The Koch family will be present to receive friends, Monday January 16, 2023 from 6pm until 8pm with holy rosary being recited at 7pm at Dettling Funeral Home, 14094 Memorial Dr., Houston TX 77079. Funeral Mass will commence Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at 1030 am at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 625 Nottingham Oaks Trail, Houston TX 77079. Gravesite services will follow Holy Mass at VA Houston National Cemetery via motorized cortege at 1 pm. Pall bearers will be his grandsons and great grandsons.
