Holley Mitchell "Mitch" Cornette

H. Mitchell Cornette, a wonderful and loving husband, father, and friend passed away April 2, 2011. Mitch touched many lives with his generosity, loyalty, and laughter and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends all over the world. Mitch is survived by his loving wife of 32 years Carol Ann Cornette, his son, Brian Mitchell Cornette and wife Ying, and his daughter Hayley Ann Cornette, his parents Jesse D. and Alpha S. Cornette, brother Jackie, and sister Susie and their extended families, Carol’s parents Ann and Ed Hinkley, Brother in-Law Richard and his children Ricky and Lisa, and the Silvia Fernandez family. Mitch was born on July 17, 1953 in Panama City, Florida and graduated from Rutherford High School. He worked his way through college at the University of Florida, where he earned a Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering in 1978. Mitch had a long and distinguished career in the oil and gas industry. He began his career with Amoco in Lafayette Louisiana and also worked for Sonat and El Paso in Houston. He was currently working for Chevron as the Intellectual Property Manager for Drilling and Completions. He became a world wide traveler during his tenure at Chevron and contributed to engineering operations in Australia, Brazil, Indonesia, and Japan to name a few. During his outstanding career, he earned numerous awards for engineering innovation and leadership in completion design. He served as Chairman of the Completion Engineering Association and on numerous panels and advisory boards. He was always thinking of better ways to engineer things and had earned at least 19 patents in the field of Completion and Production Engineering. Mitch especially enjoyed teaching and mentoring others and was a “go to” person who could always be relied on for assistance. He is an inspiration to many because of his insights, career guidance, and of course humor. Mitch was full-spirited, had a great disposition and was always engaging. He was a good friend and colleague to many and will be sadly missed. His unique sense of humor and compassion made all who knew him feel that they were special to him. Mitch dearly loved to fish from his boat or wading in West Bay. He was an exceptional cook who made the best BBQ ribs in the world. Mitch was a devoted and loving husband and father and always put his family first. Although he excelled at work he always said that his greatest accomplishment was his family. He was selfless in his desire to give his children the love and support they needed to become good adults and loving parents. His memory will be cherished by generations to come. Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life Memorial Service to be held at Memorial Drive United Methodist Church, 12955 Memorial Drive, on Tuesday April 12, at 4pm.
