Jan Schon Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

A Biography Jan was born in Lawton, Oklahoma, where her father was stationed with the military. At the completion of his service, the family moved back to the valley in central California to a small ranch where Jan grew up. There her lifelong love of animals began. She enjoyed riding horses around the fields and canals, had dogs and cats for pets, and there were enough squirrels and birds and such to make life interesting, but she was not wild about helping her mother with the chickens. She extended her interests to bugs once at a young age, and told about waking up on the couch looking at the doctor after she feasted on a batch of June bugs. She attended the local schools through high school. She then married a soldier in the army and they resided at various stateside bases and in Germany. She took various business courses during this time, and her children, John and Shelly, were born. She and her husband were divorced during this period and she and her two small children moved back to California. After renting a house near one of her sisters in San Rafael, California, and settling in, she began working in the local area. She soon took a position as a legal secretary at the Presidio of San Francisco, California, and began her federal career. This is when she met Jeff Schon and the fantastic journey began (guess who is writing this). They dated for several years, and had great fun in and around the Bay area. Jan also began working for the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Jeff moved to Texas after leaving active duty and they kept in touch. Soon, Jeff and Jan decided to marry and she moved to Texas. They were married in 1983. Jan transferred to the Houston U.S. Attorney’s Office for several years. She then became Legal Secretary to Federal Bankruptcy Judge Letitia Paul, and finally finished her Federal career as a Deputy Clerk. Jeff and Jan have lived in Houston since their marriage. They managed to totally spoil their two dogs, Muffin and Taffy, and for about the last twenty years or so, her life was centered around her granddaughters, Ashlee and Samee. They played golf at Hearthstone Country Club, and just enjoyed the area. Restaurants, the occasional happy hour, the Art Festival, and the Art Car Parade, and volunteer work for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, all were good. She enjoyed cooking and had great times getting together with the Hearthstone Dinner Group and the Beefpokers Barbecue Cooking Team at the Rodeo. She is missed, but will be lovingly remembered.
