Jane Egan Ashfield

Jane Egan Ashfield, 79, of Houston passed away Sunday, March 16, 2014. Jane was born February 25, 1935 in Brooklyn, NY to John and Elisabeth Egan. She is preceded in death by her parents and is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Bob Ashfield, Sr.; sons, Bob Ashfield, Jr. and his wife Deborah, Mike Ashfield and his wife Carol Barrett; step grandchildren, Jackie (Barrett) McMillan and her husband Jeremy, Nathan Barrett and his wife Kelly, Jodi Barrett and Tiffany Barrett; brothers, John Egan and his wife, Mary and Jerome Egan as well as numerous other extended family and good friends. Jane moved to Albany, NY as a teen when her father joined the office of the State’s Attorney General. After high school and college, and a brief career in business, Jane moved to Middlesboro, Kentucky to join her husband (Bob), then serving in the US Army; it is there where their first son, Bob Jr. was born. They returned to Albany in 1959 when Bob’s tour of service was completed, and he began his career with Shell Oil Co. Soon thereafter, they moved to Utica, NY in 1960. Jane became active in the Utica Jaycees (the Junior Chamber of Commerce Auxiliary) serving as its president and going on to become the first vice president of the state organization. In 1965 the family moved to Baltimore for three years, where Michael was born. They also lived briefly in New Jersey before moving to Houston in 1970 where they have lived ever since. Jane continued to be active in the community and her church serving on numerous committees in the local civic club (Memorial Plaza) and two terms as President of the St. John Vianney Catholic Church Women’s Club. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and friend. She was dearly loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed. The Ashfield family will be present to receive friends Thursday, March 20, 2014 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a Vigil Service beginning at 7:00 PM at Dettling Funeral Home, 14094 Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77079. The Funeral Mass will commence Friday, March 21, 2014 at 10:30 AM at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 625 Nottingham Oaks Trail, Houston, TX 77079. A reception will follow mass at Dettling Funeral Home.
