Kathleen Kay McNamara Bevans

Kathleen Kay McNamara Bevans age 84, died January 14, 2025, in Houston, Texas. Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, on October 12, 1940, she was the youngest child of John and Marion McNamara. She graduated from Dominican High School and Loyola University in New Orleans, where she met the love of her life, Thomas Bevans. Kathleen was married 58 years to Tom, who preceded her in death. She is survived by five children: MaryKay and husband Clint Schroff, and Thomas M. Bevans and wife Lisa of College Station, Texas; Beth and husband David Looney of Houston; Allyson and husband David Sutton of Fulshear, Texas; and Chris Bevans and his wife Patti of Baldwinsville, New York. Kathleen is blessed with and survived by nine grandchildren: Kelli Bevans Joiner (Tim), Shannon Looney, Lauren Sutton Sinclair (George); Pete Looney, Ryan Bevans (Safina), Erin Sutton McGahren (Charlie), Will Bevans, Colin Bevans and Michael Schroff; and four great grandsons: Mathew Joiner, Luke Sinclair, Levi Joiner and Jack Sinclair. Kathleen volunteered for many years with the Verona Missionary League, which helps raise funds for missionaries around the world. She spent many years teaching at the Briarwood School in Houston, where she loved and learned so much from her students. Kathleen continued her work at the Sylvan Learning Center in Katy, Texas, where she had the privilege of teaching so many remarkable, beautiful children. She was a mentor to students at Northbrook Senior High School through her church, St. John Vianney, and was a 10-year volunteer at Texas Children's Hospital. Kathleen loved reading and was devoted to helping others love it as well. Among her many interests were travelling worldwide and experiencing new places with her beloved Tom, deepening her knowledge of her Catholic faith, and spending time at the beach in Galveston. Her greatest joy was being with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, eating ice cream, celebrating Mardi Gras, and watching them pursue their dreams. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 625 Nottingham Trail, Houston Texas at 10:30 a.m. on February 4, 2025. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be made to Adam’s Angels Ministry (adamsangelsministry.org), serving families who face childhood cancer.
