Laura Jean Habernal

Our beloved mother, grandmother & great grandmother, Laura Jean Habernal, 90, of Houston, Texas passed away on August 17, 2021. She was born on July 28, 1931, in Houston, Texas, and was the only child of Alice Mae and Erik Jensen. She grew up in Houston and graduated from Reagan High School in 1948. She met her true love, Charles J. Habernal, after high school whom she married on February 18,1950. They lived in Houston and were blessed with four children, Charlie, Helen, Kay, and Eric. She and Charles were married for 58 years until his passing, sharing the joys of raising a family. They were transferred to Tyler, Texas with Charles’ job with Exxon Mobil in the late 1950’s for a few years, then to Dallas for less than a year, then back to Houston where they lived in Spring Branch on Blankenship Drive. This was where the most joyous memories were made with their growing family. They loved hosting every Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, and numerous birthdays at their house. These were some of their favorite traditions, cherished by all. Nothing was more important to Laura than being a mother, a grandmother, and a great- grandmother. She was affectionately known as Granny to her seven beloved grandchildren who she was so lucky to live close by. She loved watching them grow up and attended many of their activities including ballet recitals, awards nights, graduations, and many sporting events. She was known as ‘Gigi’ to thirteen beautiful great-grandchildren who she thought hung the moon and the stars. Laura will be remembered for her fiery personality, strong will, fierce determination, smart mind, vibrant red hair, perfect make up, beautiful jewelry and nails, and always dressed to the nines. Mostly she will be remembered for her love of family who she cherished in her lifetime. She was a true character, and will be missed greatly, but will always be remembered lovingly. She is survived by her children Charles Jr.(Juanita) Habernal, Helen (Greg) Berger, Kay (Ken) Ahrens, and Eric Habernal; her beloved grandchildren, Melanie (Anthony) Zermeno, Michelle (Jed) McBride, Daniel (Claire) Berger, Keith (Erin) Ahrens, Deanna (Phil) Smith, Kevin (Christie) Ahrens, and Christopher Habernal; thirteen precious grandchildren, Kaylie, Luke, and Blake Zermeno, Jack, Evan, and Andrew Berger, Keegan, Parker, Landon, Caleb, and Grant Ahrens, Daniel and Carter Smith; her precious dog Coco; several nieces and a nephew; and several great - nieces and nephews. She is preceded by her beloved husband, Charles, and her parents whom she adored, Alice and Erik Jensen, three brothers-in-law, and two sisters-in-law.
