Leonard Leroy Drury

Leonard Leroy Drury, 97, of Houston passed away on Easter Sunday April 5, 2026. Leroy was born on November 5, 1928, in Gillespie, Illinois to Roy and Regina Drury. He was preceded in death by his wife Myra Lee Drury of 68 years and his daughter Denise Ann Drury; and is survived by his daughter Marilyn Jo Chandler and grandsons Carl and Marc Chandler. Leroy grew up in Gillespie, Il, and graduated from Gillespie, Illinois High School. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Management from St. Louis University and an M.B.A. from the University of Houston; and was inducted into Sigma Iota Epsilon, an Honorary Management Fraternity. After graduation, he enjoyed teaching management courses at the University of Houston Business School. It was during their collegiate years that Leroy and Myra met in 1949, and they were married on June 30, 1951, while he was in the United States Army at Fort Belvoir, Virginia During the Korean War. Upon his discharge from the service in 1953, Leroy began his career of 36 years with Shell Oil Company. He had a successful career with Shell. He held many different managerial assignments in various organizations in the company and worked as Shell locations in Houston and New Yor Multiple times, Louisiana, California, and London. He gradually assumed higher responsibilities, and his final assignments were Assistant Treasurer – Finance, General Manager – Information and Computer Services, Liaison – Shell Oil Company and Royal Dutch Petroleum Company, General Manager – Products Finance, Vice President – Purchasing & Administrative Services, and he retired as Vice President – Information & Computer Services in 1989. Myra was a tremendous asset during the transfers, because she always provided loving support and moved with a positive and futuristic outlook, which resulted in successful transfers, transitions, and pleasant learning experiences. Leory loved Myra and his daughters, Denise and Marilyn, and grandsons, Carl and Marc unconditionally; and always enjoyed family celebrations and events with them. During his working career or thereafter, Leroy served on the following Boards of Directors – Business land, Inc., Houston Business Council, Inc. (president), University of St. Thomas – Center for Faith and Culture, West Houston Association, and the serra Club of Northwest Houston. After Retirement, Leroy formed and managed a Financial Partnership which is still active and highly successful. He was a former member of the Houstonian Club and Lakeside Country Club. He enjoyed playing golf at Lakeside and at various public courses. Other interests included attending musical performances at the theater, dining at nice restaurants, family vacations, and extensive reading on financial subjects and the stock market. Leroy’s faith was a central part of his life, and he was a long-time member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church. At Different times he was a Eucharistic Minister, an Usher, and he served a term on the Financial Council. He also was a member of Serra International, a lay organization of the Catholic Church, which promotes religious vocations. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Cecilia Catholic Church.
