Marion Hope Dornon Causey

Marion Hope Dornon Causey, a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away on July 8 in Houston, Texas surrounded by loved ones. Hope was born in the historic G.E. Thomas farmhouse four miles north of Lissie, Texas on Aug. 30, 1927. Hope lived a beautifully full life defined by faith, family, and lifelong devotion to her high school sweetheart, Ed Causey. Hope was the only child of Susan Grace Sevier Kucherka and Albert Dornon. Hope moved many times as a child as Grace advanced her career as a registered nurse, who many knew in Colorado County as Nurse Dornon. She met her lifelong love, Ed Causey, at Eagle Lake High School in May 1940, where Hope was a flag twirler and played clarinet in the band and Ed lettered in football and basketball. Their romance lasted over seven decades. While Ed served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, Hope attended the University of Texas at Austin. The sweethearts reunited after his discharge and married the day after Thanksgiving in 1946—a date chosen so their wedding party could attend the annual UT-A&M football game. When Ed's GI Bill funding fell short, Hope left school to work at the Department of Public Safety in Austin, ensuring he could finish his degree in Petroleum Engineering. The couple moved to Eagle Lake in 1950 so Ed could begin work with Tenneco Oil Company, a company that Ed eventually retired from as Vice President in 1985. The couple welcomed daughter Jan in 1950, daughter Jill in 1952 and son Mark in 1954. Hope poured immense joy into her family. She managed their home through corporate moves—including a memorable stint in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, in 1957—before settling long-term in Houston's Memorial Forest neighborhood in 1960 and later Parkway Villages in 2006. Hope was a pillar of the Memorial Drive United Methodist Church in West Houston, where she began volunteering in 1961. She dedicated her time to United Methodist Women and worked in the Allen Parkway Village Resale Shop. She was a Brownie leader, taught Vacation Bible School and Sunday School, participated for many years in new church member visitations, and cooked and served meals for the Fisherman. She and Ed were longtime members of Bridgebuilders. Hope was an active member of the Huguenot Society, Colonial Dames, Daughters of the Cincinnati, Daughters of the American Revolution, and the PEO Sisterhood Chapter EP-Houston. Hope is preceded in death by her parents and husband, Ed Causey Jr. She is survived by her children, Jan Causey Brown, Jill Causey Williams, and Mark Causey (Janis); her four grandchildren Amanda Reneau (Ken), Ashley Sims (Robert), Allison Ehrlich (Eric) and Lee Meyer (Laura); and her eight (soon to be nine) great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family invites memorial donations to Caring Forever Foundation, Memorial Drive United Methodist Church, 12955 Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas or Lakeside Cemetery, 404 N. Stevenson St.,Eagle Lake, Texas 77434. A graveside service will be held later at Lakeside Cemetery in Eagle Lake.
