Marjorie Anne Morris

Marjorie Morris, age 72, a devoted wife, mother, and woman of deep faith, passed away while on pilgrimage in Poland, on June 15, 2026. She was born on October 26, 1953, to Rodric and Frances Morrogh, who preceded her in death. Marjorie is survived by her loving husband, Gary Morris; her sister, Dorothy Morrogh; her children, Becky Stegall, Daniel Morris, and David Morris; and her cherished grandchildren, Madeleine, James, and Sam Stegall, and Emilia and Anneliese Morris. She is also survived by her Aunt Jo Ann Ferguson; her cousin Alfred Sanders; and cousins Mike Barrow, Peggy Holloway, James Jones, Kerri Byler, and Elizabeth Yzaguire. Marjorie spent her childhood in Baytown and San Antonio, Texas, where she developed the warm spirit and strong values that would guide her throughout her life. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in San Antonio and later earned her degree from St. Edward's University in Austin, Texas. A woman of deep and abiding faith, Marjorie lived her Catholic faith with conviction, generosity, and love. Her faith was not simply something she believed—it was something she practiced every day through service to others, compassion, and a commitment to her community. Nothing brought Marjorie greater joy than her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, and her five grandchildren held a special place in her heart. She treasured every opportunity to spend time with them, celebrate their accomplishments, and create memories that will remain with them forever. Music was not only a lifelong passion for Marjorie but, in many ways, her vocation. . A talented pianist, she shared her gift generously by teaching piano lessons for many years, inspiring countless students with her patience, encouragement, and dedication. Whether playing for family, friends, or simply for her own enjoyment, music was one of the ways she expressed her creativity and brought people together. Travel and adventure were another of Marjorie's great passions. Whether she was planning her next cruise, exploring a new destination, or reminiscing about previous journeys, she approached life with curiosity and enthusiasm. She loved discovering new places and sharing those experiences with family and friends. Service to others was one of Marjorie's defining qualities. She was a dedicated volunteer with the Charity Guild of Catholic Women since 2009, where she faithfully gave her time and energy as a member of the “2,4 Thursday” volunteer team. Her commitment to helping others reflected the generosity and kindness that were hallmarks of her character. An avid bridge player, Marjorie loved both the challenge of the game and the friendships it fostered. She continually sought to improve her skills, taking lessons and participating in weekly games throughout the city. Bridge brought her countless hours of enjoyment and connected her with a community of friends she deeply valued. Marjorie will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her generous heart, her love of family, and the joy she brought to those around her. Though she will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort in the countless memories she created and the enduring legacy of love she leaves behind. The Morris family will be present to receive friends Monday, July 6, 2026 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a Rosary beginning at 7:00 PM at Dettling Funeral Home, 14094 Memorial Dr, Houston, TX 77079. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, July 7, 2026 at 10:30 AM at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 625 Nottingham Oaks Trail, Houston, TX 77079. A reception will follow Holy Mass on the church grounds. Marjorie will be laid to rest at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery following the reception.
