Mary Katherine Byars She was a courageous, beautiful, and breath-taking woman. Mary passed away Friday September 16th. She was a caring daughter to James and Mary Jameson. A Big Sister to so many amazing human beings: Virginia Clare Jameson, Vicky Jameson, and Terry Burkley - Jameson Rusty Jameson, Bernard Jameson, Tony Craig Jameson, and John Marshall Jameson. A Remarkable Mother to Trevor Ray Byars and Kerri Renee Byars. A Gentle Grandmother to Bryce Zachary Byars, Myles Ray Byars, and Ella Camille Byars Bigger Question: Who was she? Simple. Mary was and is GOD’S CHILD! She was a spiritual being having a human experience. What did she do on this earth? She DREAMED - like our courageous Leader, Martin Luther King. She could LEAD - like our great Sojourner Truth. (Don’t you try to take what was due to her and her family.) She could FIGHT – like Ali. (All the way to the supreme court!) Oh, and how she could THINK – like Maya Angelou. (You may be busy running while she’s out thinking you!) She was EDUCATED – like Baldwin. (Do not try and debate facts with her because she was right! And you find out you were Wrong! As she was a ferocious reader and soaked up knowledge.) She could DEFY - like Rosa Parks. (I remember being the first black family on the block! Do you?) She was a BELIEVER – like Frederick. (Agitate! Agitate! Agitate! We will move forward.) And she had those beautiful, gifted hands. She was a HEALER…. like NO other. A splendid and Gifted Nurse for over four decades. Yes! Four. Mary SERVED and brought significance to this world. Be well marvelous people. ********************************************************************************************************** The family will be available to receive guests on Friday, September 30, 2022 from 6:00 PM til 8:00 PM at Dettling Funeral Home, 14094 Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77079 for visitation. Beginning at 7:00 PM, the microphone will be opened for friends and loved ones to share tributes about Mrs. Mary Byars. The funeral service will take place on Saturday, October 1, 2022 at 11:00 AM inside the Chapel of Dettling Funeral Home.
