Mary Antonia Sekul Worth

Mary Antonia ("Mary Lou") Sekul Worth, 93, passed into glory on September 27, 2020 in Boerne, Texas. She was born on December 14, 1926, to an immigrant fisherman and wife, Steve C. and Yerka Barasic Sekul. She was the youngest of six siblings and was preceded in death by Marguerite Sekul Filipich, Mike Sekul, George (Rushie) Sekul, Lucy Sekul Mavar, and Wallace Steve Sekul, M.D. Her husband of 49 years, John Stanley Worth, preceded her in death in 1993. She is survived by her children Steven and wife Cynthia, Gerald and wife Dona, Jacqueline and Michael and wife Karen. She was the perfect grandmother and was affectionately called Nuna by Bryan, Brad, Jarred, Lisa, Andrea, Matt, Ryan, Laura, David, John, and Mary Beth, along with great grandchildren Tyler, Aubrey, Brandon, Cameron, Kathryn, Todd, Ella, Amelie, Lucas, Nolan and Claire, along with numerous adoring nieces and nephews. She was always a giver and a servant who had a heart of gold and selflessly shared all she had to give. She never met a stranger, and she was an amazing cook; always welcoming all into her kitchen to share her culinary delights. Holidays were always a special time for her as she was surrounded by family and she shared many of her family's Croatian traditions. Thanksgiving and Christmas were especially meaningful because she taught her grandchildren how to bake Croatian cookies and desserts and sing traditional Croatian songs that were so dear to her and our family. After retiring from her career as a store manager for Pilgrim Cleaners, she enjoyed traveling and was always up for an adventure. Her favorite adventure was a trip to Croatia to visit her parents' birthplace and meet family she had not seen in years. Her trip to Croatia gave her the chance to remember her childhood and her parents and traditions she so loved and shared with everyone special to her. There were also many trips she made over the years to visit her much loved hometown, Biloxi, MS, where she enjoyed reunions with her very large extended family and bonded over stories of her parents and siblings. A requiem mass will be held on Friday, October 9th at Our Lady of Walsingham at 10:00 am, to celebrate her life and the beautiful impact she had on so many people. Internment will follow at 2:00 pm at Houston National Cemetery where she will join her late husband. We will be celebrating her rejoining her mom and dad, siblings, and husband in the promise of heaven and pray for her peace. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donation be made in her memory to Cathedral of Our Lady of Walsingham at 7809 Shadyvilla Lane, Houston, TX 77055.
