Rani Clarence Rego

Rani Rego, 54 of Houston passed away July 6th, 2011, surrounded by her immediate family. Rani was born November 8, 1956 in Hubli, India. She is preceded in death by her father Sylvester Mendonca and is survived by her mother Dorothy Mendonca , her husband Capt. Clarence Rego, her son Ashwin Rego and wife Michelle Rego, her daughter Sonia Menjivar, husband Carlos Menjivar granddaughter Ava Menjivar, and her sisters Premila, Shyla and their families. Rani attended Auxilium Convent in Bombay where she was known for her athletic skills and won a number of awards at different sports events. She attended Sophia College; shortly after which she got married. She taught at Yorkshire Academy and St. John Vianney, where she also helped start the community garden. She also worked at the Better Business Bureau and was the sole proprietor of “Shoppers Stop” toy store. She was also entertainment secretary for the Texas Indian Pakistani Catholic Association (TIPCA) organization in Houston. Rani traveled the globe and visited numerous places including Japan, Singapore, South Africa, Mauritius, Egypt, South America and Europe. She loved to sail with her husband, organize camping trips and entertain guests in her home. Some of her favorite activities included cooking for her family and tending to her garden with her green fingers. She exuded confidence in anything she put her mind to. Besides her culinary skills and athletic abilities, Rani was a radiant soul. She loved meeting new people and people always looked to her for advice. Her charismatic personality attracted people towards her. She was always enthusiastic about life and its possibilities. She had a unique ability to encourage and inspire confidence in her family and took tremendous pride in their achievements. She was compassionate, inspirational and a loving mother and wife and will be greatly missed. The wake and celebration of Rani’s vibrant life will be held on Friday, July 8th from 6:00 p.m to 9:00 p.m. at D.M. Dettling Funeral Directors ( 713-492-3572), 14094 Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77079. The Holy Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated by Fr.Troy Gately at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 625 Nottingham Oaks Trail, Houston, TX 77079 on Tuesday, July 12th, 2011 at 1:00 PM. Shortly after mass we will proceed to Memorial Oaks Cemetery at 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77079.
