Susie Rodela Perez

Susie Rodela Perez passed away at her home in San Antonio on November 11, 2021 at the age of 76. She was born on September 22, 1945 in San Antonio, Texas to Manuel and Emma Rodela. Susie grew up in San Antonio and later in Corpus Christi, Texas where she graduated from Mary Carroll High School. She then attended Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas where she received her Bachelor of Education. In May of 1969 she married her high school sweetheart, Richard Perez. Susie and Richard raised their family in Corpus Christi and were active members in the community for over 30 years before moving to Katy, Texas and then to San Antonio. She was a devout Catholic and could often be found in the carpool of St. Pius, Incarnate Word Academy or King High School. Susie loved to travel with her family, and if you could not find her, she might be sitting at a slot machine in Las Vegas or Lake Charles, Louisiana. She was an art enthusiast, a dog lover, an outstanding cook, and a huge fan of Aggie football. Susie was a proud mother and grandmother (affectionately known as See Saw), and especially enjoyed supporting her kids and grandkids in their sports activities. We will miss her sweet soul, kind smile and Thanksgiving dressing. Susie truly leaves a legacy of faith, hope, and love. Susie is survived by spouse of 52 years, Richard Perez, daughter Monica Dunwoody and her husband Grant, son Michael Perez and his wife Allison, six grandchildren - Travis, Emma, and Lauren Dunwoody, Luke, Peyton and Langley Perez. Also surviving her are sister-in-laws Donna Farias and Cookie De Los Santos, aunt Minnie Rodrigez, and numerous cousins. She is proceeded in death by her parents Manuel and Emma Rodela and other precious members of extended family. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 1 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Dettling Funeral Home (14094 Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77079) with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be on Thursday, December 2 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Vianney Catholic Church (625 Nottingham Oaks Trail, Houston, Texas 77079) with a reception immediately following. A private family burial at Houston National Cemetery will be held at a later date. The family suggests donations be made to Schoenstatt Lamar in Rockport, Texas (www.schoenstatt-lamar.us).
