William "Bill" Arthur Teague

William “Bill” Arthur Teague, a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather passed away on Thursday, November 16, 2023 at the age of 81. He is preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy Hogge Teague and Robert “Frank” Franklin Teague , brother, Robert “Bob” Franklin Teague Jr., Niece, Sarah Teague, and two sons-in-law, Todd Buchanan and David Conkle. He is survived by his wife, Joanie Bruyere Teague, his three daughters, Julie Conkle, Jennifer Buchanan, Jill Marks and husband, Colin; his grandchildren: Zachary Buchanan, Haley Buchanan, Savannah Marks, and George William Marks and several step-grandchildren: Justin Conkle, David Conkle Jr., and Celine Conkle. He is also survived by sisters-in-law: Amy Lauck of Wichita Falls and Judy Teague; nieces: Melissa Eakman, Amy Teague, and Linda Fain; and nephews, Robert “Rob” Franklin Teague III and Burtt B. Lauck. A native Houstonian, Bill Teague was born in Houston, Texas on April 3, 1942 and grew up in Tanglewood. He went to Lanier Junior High School and Lamar High School graduating in 1960. During high school and for much of his life, he was an avid swimmer. He was co-captain of the swim team in high school. After high school, he attended the University of Texas. While there he was an active member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity where he made many long time friends. At the University of Texas, he met his future wife, Joanie, recently celebrating 57 years of married life together. Bill graduated from the University of Texas in 1964 with a BBA and attended the University of Texas Law School graduating in 1967 with a Doctor of Jurisprudence and was an active a member of the Texas Bar Association. Bill then went on to serve two years on active duty in the U.S. Army. Upon returning to Houston in 1969, Bill began his law practice with Judge William P. Hamblen with Hamblen and Hamblen law firm. He soon became a partner and practiced law for 50+ years. Bill was devoted to his work and to his family. He was an avid reader and enjoyed watching all kinds of sports especially UT football games and Astros games. He had a great sense of humor and was a devoted, caring, and patient father and grandfather. He was instrumental in helping his three daughters learn to read, swim, ride a bike, and drive. In addition, he loved attending his children’s and grandchildren’s many activities and games. He also took many trips with his family, and friends to Santa Fe, Florida, San Francisco, Carmel, and Colorado. Bill also enjoyed many good times at the family home in New Braunfels on the Comal River swimming, tubing, and barbecuing with family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him. The family would like to thank the caregivers at The Heritage for their compassion and care of Bill. A visitation with the family will be held at Dettling Funeral Home, 14094 Memorial Drive, Monday, November 20, 2023 from 6:00-8:00 pm with a vigil service beginning at 7:00 PM. The Funeral Mass will be on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at 10:30 AM at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 625 Nottingham Oaks Trail, Houston, TX 77079. Bill will be laid to rest in Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery following a reception at church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in support of Dr. Joseph Masdeu’s Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD) research at Houston Methodist Hospital’s Nantz National Alzheimer Center.
