Alfonso Santana

October 22, 1935 - January 3, 2021

A loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend. Alfonso Santana, age 85, born October 22, 1935, in Apaxtla, Guerrero, Mexico passed away peacefully on January 03, 2021 in Houston, Texas, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Alfonso (Poncho) was preceded in death by his parents, Gonzalo Santana and Maria de Jesus Bustamante; one younger sister, Maria de Jesus Santana Bustamante and brother, Mario Santana. He is survived by his wife, Reyna; children, Evelia (S: Jose), Reynel (S: Maritza), Mary (S: Edgar), Reyna (S: Rob), as well as 7 grandchildren; Jimmy, Jason, Derek, Annette, Kelly, Alan and Ashley and 8 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings; Cirenia, Lucila, David, Salvador, Rafael, Emilio, Oliva and Jose. Poncho’s pride and joy was his family and always making sure he was a good provider. We remember Poncho as a kind, sociable and generous man who loved his family. His pride and joy was his family and making sure he was a good provider. His hobbies included, the gym, gardening and taking a country drive to see cattle. He thought us to work hard and to never give up. Ponchito was everyone’s role model and a great storyteller, he could keep you for hours in conversation and he especially enjoyed being our personal Gardner every time he visited our homes. His love for his Nena (wife), his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren was immeasurable. He taught us the true meaning of love, courage and respect. He will be greatly missed. We invite family and friends to join us in a celebration of Ponchos’ life. A private mass will be celebrated on January 7, 2021 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church at 11:00 am. Followed by a burial at Woodlawn Cemetery, 1101 Antoine Dr, Houston, Texas.
