Bernice Rose (Demny) Cooper

February 18, 1931 - August 21, 2018

Bernice Rose (Demny) Cooper, 87, of Houston passed away Tuesday, August 21, 2018. Mrs. Cooper was born February 18, 1931 in Dobbin, TX to Joseph and Pearl Demny. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband Donald Ray Cooper. Bernice is survived by her children, Catherine Wells & husband Walter, Brian Cooper & wife Carolyn, Lisa Tucker & husband George, Jennifer Medley & husband Tom; grandchildren, Lauren Warwick & husband Michael, Lindsey Pooley & husband Austin, Sarah Dietrick & husband John, Cameron Cooper, Cody Cooper, Rachael Tucker, Madison Medley, Jake Medley, Joseph Medley; great grandchildren, Riley Warwick, Ethan Warwick; brother, Norbert Demny and sister, Regina Betts. Bernice grew up in the town of Dobbin, TX in Grimes County. After high school, she moved to Houston and started work with Humble Oil Co. where she met her husband, Donald Cooper. They lived in Houston where they raised their 4 children. They lived in the Sherwood Oaks neighborhood since 1968. Bernice was a high spirited person with a deep devotion to her faith, the Catholic Church and her family. She was an active, long time member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church. Bernice volunteered at SJV in several ways. She spent many years devoted to adoration, and the last 7 or so years were also spent helping in Joseph’s Coat where she was very devoted in serving. She was a world traveler. In the beginning, Bernice and Donald started traveling alone and then with friends that they had met along the way. She loved to keep track of all the different countries she had visited. She also enjoyed going to their blue lake house on Lake Livingston. They would spend holidays with all the family there and go boating and fishing. Bernice and Donald were great fishermen and always had a huge fish fry and invited everyone to join. As her family got older, she loved her girl trips to the casino and trips to visit her family who lived away. One of her favorite social past times was playing bridge. She was one hell of a bridge player who stayed very active until weeks before her death. She leaves a large group of wonderful friends and a large family who she truly cherished. She was loved by those who knew her and will be greatly missed. The Cooper family will be present to receive friends Sunday, August 26, 2018 from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM with a Rosary being recited at 4:00 PM at Dettling Funeral Home, 14094 Memorial Dr., Houston, TX 77079. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, August 27, 2018 at 10:30 AM at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 625 Nottingham Oaks Trail, Houston, TX 77079. A reception will follow Holy Mass on the church campus. Mrs. Cooper will be laid to rest at Memorial Oaks Cemetery following the reception.
