Daniel Joseph DeCourcy

April 8, 1938 - June 15, 2020

Daniel Joseph DeCourcy, 82, of Houston passed away Monday June 15, 2020. Daniel was born April 8, 1938 in Lawrence, Massachusetts, to Daniel and Rena DeCourcy. He is preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Paula Jean DeCourcy, and his sister Judith Stone. He is survived by his wife Veronica “Roni” of 59 years of marriage, His son Michael, his sisters Ann Cameron & Ruth Mahon, his grand-children Ryan, Eric & Kathryn DeCourcy and many nieces and nephews. Daniel grew up in Lawrence, Mass. and graduated from Central Catholic High School. Due to lack of money, Dan decided to take a job in the Lawrence mills processing raw wool fleeces. The following year the money he earned was sufficient to cover his freshman year at Northeastern University in Boston in their 5 year co-op program. His “co-op” jobs were with USN Under water Sound Lab in Connecticut and with USN Boston Naval Shipyard. Dan received his BS in Electrical Engineering. He then worked for the USAF Cambridge Research Labs while he studied to receive his master’s degree. Then in 1964 he received a National Science Foundation Doctoral Fellowship which enabled him to work for and receive his PhD in Electrical Engineering in June 1967. Dan worked in the Aerospace industry thru 1977. Dan then changed his career path and became a major player in the development and growth of the digital utility mapping business where he worked until his retirement in 2002. Dan loved his retirement home in Florida. He loved all the beaches and he loved cruising to all the Caribbean islands. But he loved his grandkids more so we made Texas our new home. He thrived on all the activities available in our “over 55” community and then in our “over 62” Erickson independent living home when he planned to spend a few more years. But GOD said, “time to come to your final home”. Plans have not been finalized for a memorial service at a later date at Eagle’s Trace Senior Living Community 14703 Eagle Vista Dr, Houston, Texas 77077.
