Helen Marie Weynand Mailloux
October 4, 1929 - February 20, 2017
Helen Marie Weynand Mailloux, age 87, beloved by all, passed away suddenly on February 20, 2017, and went to be with our Lord in Heaven. Our Mom was born on October 4, 1929, in San Antonio, Texas. As a child she was precocious, kind, and loved engaging with friends and family in any type of game. During her high school years, she played the piano in a band to entertain troops at the local bases in San Antonio. She graduated from Incarnate Word College in 1950 with a BS in Home Economics, then taught elementary school in San Antonio for the next 2 years. She married our father, Eugene Mailloux, on June 23, 1951, in San Antonio, and in 1957 moved to Houston, where they would spend the rest of their lives. Always serving our family, she and our father were selflessly devoted to the care of our youngest sister, Janette, demonstrating a love that will forever inspire us. Mom was never too busy to talk to or visit with any of her 5 children, 10 grandchildren, or their families, and over the last 5 years really enjoyed staying connected with everyone through Facebook. A fierce bridge player and a Words with Friends devotee, gaming remained a passion throughout her life. She also loved traveling to Europe, adored anything French, and even took French classes. An avid reader, she had a wonderfully sharp mind and might be the most competitive home Jeopardy player anyone has ever seen. She was also a fabulous cook and was never too busy to bring a meal to a sick friend. She has been a role model to us all and loved us unconditionally. She was an active member of St. John Vianney Church and her strong faith radiated throughout all of her life. She is preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Lillian Weynand, and her loving husband of 62 1/2 years, Eugene Mailloux. She is survived by her only sibling, Patricia Weissler. She is also survived by her children: Cynthia Merryman (Jim), Gene Mailloux, Mary Helen Kruppa (Dan), Paul Mailloux (Shannon), and Janette Mailloux. She was a loving Mimi to her grandchildren: Paul Merryman (Julie), Lisa Merryman Johnson (Jesh), Philip Mailloux, Rachel Mailloux Sullivan (David), Andrew Merryman (Lacie), Tommy Kruppa, Sam Kruppa, James Merryman, Mackenzie Mailloux, and Taylor Mailloux; and to her great-grandchildren: Addie Johnson, Eli Merryman, Henry Sullivan, and Kyler Gardner. There will be a memorial mass at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 625 Nottingham Oaks Trail, Houston, TX 77079 on Monday, March 6th, at 10:30 am. Graveside services will follow at 2:00 pm at Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Citizens for Animal Protection or the Spring Branch Memorial ARC. Many thanks to all of her precious family, and special friends Peggy Perry, Angie Barber, Beverly and Wayne Ekstrom, Johnny Walker, and many other wonderful friends for their love and care over the years. We love you, Mom, and you will be forever in our hearts. Visit www.DettlingFuneral.com to leave online tributes.
