Jesse Metteau Carr III
September 3, 1952 - August 27, 2015
In the early morning of August 27, 2015, Jesse passed away at Memorial City Hermann Hospital in Houston, Texas. Jesse was 62 years old and in the loving care of his wife and best friend, Floy S. Holloman. Jesse was born on September 3, 1952. He was the first child of Jesse M. Carr, Jr. and Martha Niday Carr, both of whom preceded Jesse in death. Jesse is survived by his wife, Floy S. Holloman; stepmother Barbara T. Smith; two sisters: Martha A. Carr, MD, husband, Devant K. Smith, and their son, Austin, of Covington, Louisiana and Barbara C. Hicken, her daughter, Lyndsay, and son, Christopher, of Brighton, MN; and many extended relatives and friends. True to form even as a young man, Jesse was an Eagle Scout and member of the Order of the Arrow. Close friends remember Jesse in his adult life as a fiercely honest individual with a brilliant mind and a multitude of talents and interests. Jesse attended Lee High School and Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge where he earned a BS in Electrical Engineering in 1974 and a Juris Doctor at the LSU Law School in 1977. His was an active member of Theta Xi social fraternity, College of Engineering President, SGA Engineering Representative, Phi Eta Sigma, Pi Mu Epsilon, Tau Beta Pi, Omicron Delta Kappa and recipient of the George Raymond scholarship and the Louisiana Power and Light Scholarship. His engineering experience began at the Southeastern Chemical Plant in Reserve, Louisiana while he obtained his law degree. It was this first job that peeked Jesse’s interest in industrial instrumentation, process control and electrical systems. He moved to Houston, Texas in 1977 to work for JE Sirrine Company as a instrumentation and controls engineer. For the next 7 years, he expanded his experience level and was given increasing responsibility on multiple projects in the petroleum, petrochemical, pulp and paper, power and pharmaceutical industries. During this period, desktop computers were just being introduced and Jesse and a fellow friend and engineer, Bill Sperry, built their own computers from the circuit board level from a mail order kit. Jesse left JE Sirrine in 1984 and worked on a consulting basis for Zydex Engineering to develop a state of the art software to streamline the work process for instrumentation and controls engineering. This software, known as Smartplant Instrumentation, is today a household word in the control systems industry. Jesse maintained his Law License in Louisiana and Texas. He served on the Board of several companies and was the former Director and President of East Texas Company. He was always willing to help friends and business associates with legal matters, however small. By 1986, Jesse and his friend and associate, Bill Sperry, founded Intellex Corporation, providing control systems consulting services to engineering firms on large, highly specialized projects across the country. Notable clients during this time were Mead Paper Company, Potlatch Paper Company, CRS Sirrine, City of Houston, Fisher Controls and 3M Company. Jesse became the Chief Engineer for Intellex Corporation in 1992 and again expanded the business to include control panel design, electrical testing and certification and turnkey engineering and construction projects. Over the next 22 years, Jesse completed projects for more than 60 companies, specializing in specialized control system applications, facility-wide utility integration systems and turn-key design/build control systems projects. Notable clients included 3M Medical Systems Imaging Division, NASA Johnson Space Center, White Sands National Missile Range Control Center, Reliant Energy Thermal Systems, Chrysler Corporation in Auburn Hills, Michigan, Northwind, Houston and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Jesse was a member of American Institute of Chemical Engineers, National Fire Protection Associations, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, International Society for Automation, American College of Forensic Engineers and the American Board for Certification in Homeland Security. Jesse was also a registered professional engineer in 13 states and had articles published for his work in Batch Control Processes and Facility-Wide Utility Integration. He was recognized in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Law and Who's Who in Finance and Industry. Jesse earned a pilot's license while in college, was an avid reader and loved to snow ski and hike. Jesse found time to mentor young Scouts and spend time on his country property where he tended his fruit trees and drilled his own water well. A Memorial Service will be held October 4, at 2:00 PM, at Galloway UMC Chapel in Jackson, MS. At a later date a Remembrance will be held in Houston, TX. Memorial donations may be made to Holloman Endowment Fund, Millsaps College, 1701 North State Street, Jackson MS 39210; Boy Scouts of America National Foundation, 1325 West Walnut Hill Lane, Irving TX 75038; Nature Conservatory, 4245 Fairfax Drive Suite 100, Arlington VA 22203.
