Kathleen Hayes Vincent
May 7, 1937 - August 26, 2019
Kathleen Hayes Vincent (“Kathy”) left this earth on Monday, August 26, 2019. She was 82 years old. Her dry wit and sense of humor will not be forgotten. She will be sadly missed by her three children Tim, Jeff, and Kevin; her daughters-in law Debbie, Rachele, and Lee; and five loving grandchildren, Madelyn and Meagan from Franklin, Tennessee; Alexandra, Victoria, and Austin from Houston. All affectionately called Kathy by the name of Grummy. She also leaves behind her older brother Michael Hayes and his wife, Diane of Dinuba, California, and many nieces and nephews. Too numerous to mention, Kathy will also be missed by her many, many friends whose lives she touched over her 82 years. Kathy was a classic California girl. She grew up on the beaches in Southern California. She attended the University of California Santa Barbara and pledged Alpha Phi. It was there that she met the love of her life, Darryl Lee Vincent. He and Kathy started their life together and she soon found herself raising three rambunctious sons. She was happily married to Darryl until he passed in 2014. Kathy took pride in being a homemaker. She loved cooking, trying new recipes, and entertaining her dear friends in the Nottingham Forest neighborhood, as well as her large group of St. John Vianney church friends. Kathy was an avid bridge player her whole life. She loved getting together with her bridge girls on a regular basis to laugh, gossip, have a cocktail or two, and enjoy each other’s company while playing cards. Besides cooking, Kathy enjoyed painting, sewing, attending Stratford football games when Kevin played ball, and spending time by the pool with her family. When the boys were young, the family went on camping trips together. Kathy found that she enjoyed fishing. She and Darryl got a boat and fishing became a hobby for a number of years. Kathy also stayed busy by volunteering her time at various places, including the St. John Vianney Charity Guild Shop. Kathy’s family and friends fulfilled her. She and Darryl had a large group of dear friends that enjoyed socializing as well as traveling. From trips to Port Aransas to stay in the condo, to going to Tennessee to watch Tim’s family grow up, to traveling the world, Kathy and Darryl enjoyed each other’s company and the company of their friends. For many years, the family’s annual Florida beach vacation was the highlight of the year. In later life, cruising became Kathy’s favorite mode of travel and she never said no to an opportunity to be on a ship. Her final cruise with friends was November 2018. Kathy was deeply loved by her immediate and extended family. Grummy was a one of a kind person. She loved visiting with her grandchildren, attending their school and sporting events, watching TV in her favorite chair, reading the paper from cover to cover, and using her Kindle to read her love stories. She loved wasabi peas, caramel Turtles Almond Rocha and Dairy Queen Blizzards. She immensely enjoyed going to “La Ha” with her friends for lunch and margaritas. Kathy’s friendship, wicked sense of humor, intelligence, and loyalty to others will not be forgotten. She leaves us with a wealth of memories that will keep those who knew her smiling. Family and friends are invited to celebrate her life with a visitation and Holy Rosary on Tuesday, September 10 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm with a Rosary Service at 7:00 PM at Dettling Funeral Home, 14094 Memorial Dr., Houston, TX 77079. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, September 11 at 10:30 am at St. John Vianney Catholic Church. The family would like to thank the entire staff at Bayou Vista for their exceptional kindness and loving care.
