Mary Dingman

January 17, 1934 - September 14, 2019

Mary Dingman, 85, of Houston passed away Saturday, September 14, 2019. Mary was born January 17, 1934 in Eupora, MS to Donald and Myrtle Castle. She is preceded in death by her husband Jack Dingman and is survived by her daughter, Angel Polk; son, John Dingman & wife Julie; grandchildren, Lindsay Polk Gibson & husband Russell Gibson, John Christopher Dingman, Amber Grace Dingman; great grandchildren, Colby Gibson and Zoe Gibson; sister, Debbie Belcher as well as extended family and dear friends. Mary grew up in Hattiesburg, MS where she attended Hattiesburg High School. Her work moved her to Houston where she met and married the love of her life Jack Dingman at a local dance. Jack’s career moved the couple to Austin for 10 years then back to Houston where Mary lived the remainder of her life. While living in Austin, Mary worked as an assistant to the Governor of Texas. She was an entrepreneur who owned several businesses including Rags, Etc. clothing store in West Houston, and The Brass Trunk Antiques Restoration. She was a past member of the Houston Junior League and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Mary enjoyed dancing, bridge club and travel. She was a longtime active member of Memorial Drive United Methodist Church in Houston where she attended Thursday Night Sunday School Class, was a member of the Alzheimer’s Care Team, the Funeral Guild and the Altar Flowers Guild. A memorial service celebrating Mary’s life will be held Friday, September 20, 2019 at 10:30 AM at Memorial Drive United Methodist Church, 12955 Memorial Dr., Houston, TX 77079.
