September 17, 1937 - April 18, 2019
Minda Paraguya Emata passed away peacefully on April 18th in Houston, Texas, while all 5 of her children were praying the Divine Mercy Chaplet for her. She was 81 years old. Minda was born in Kinoguitan, Misamis Oriental, Philippines. She completed a degree in Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy. She loved travelling and gardening. She had a way with plants and was always happy to share her plants to those who love them, as well. Minda loved her family dearly and fought bravely when she was first diagnosed with breast cancer 9 years ago. She was a fighter. She was on remission for over 5 years. In 2016, she was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer which spread to her liver and other organs. Despite a poor prognosis and at age 78, she, again, faced cancer head on and went through numerous treatments. She knew her family was there every step of the way. Minda had an unwavering faith in God. She gave her pain to the Lord and fully accepted that it is His Will that will be done. She was a Eucharistic Minister at Notre Dame Catholic Church and a member of Confraternity of our Lady of Lourdes in the parish. She has participated in several pilgrimages to Europe and the Holy Land. Minda’s beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her two sons, Othello (Benjie) Emata and wife, Yasmin; Voltaire (Boyet) Emata; daughters, Liane Harris and husband, Steve; Emmy Metternich and husband, Werner; Stella Horsup and husband, David; eight grandchildren, Chris, Sharlaine, Claire, Melissa, Eric, Lea, Oliver and Arianna; Two brothers, Samson and Dalmacio, Jr. and five sisters, Nelda, Alice, Elsie, Ellen and Stella. Minda was predeceased by her husband, Ben Emata, who passed away last year, also at age 81; her mother, Teodosia; father, Dalmacio and brother, Pacianito.
