Patricia J. "Pat" Buffington

September 22, 1946 - November 4, 2021

On Thursday November 4th, a precious soul was called to her Heavenly home. Patricia “Pat” Jean Buffington 75, of Houston, TX passed away surrounded by family as they lovingly recalled memories of joy and played music of praise. Pat was born Sunday September 22nd, 1946, in Mishawaka, IN to Robert and Mildred Kleiser. Pat was the middle child of seven sisters. She is preceded in death by her parents, her ex-husband Charles R “Rick” Buffington III, her best friend Sara Duncan and her husband Herb. She is survived by her 3 children: Kristin Mata and her husband Chuy, Kathryn Manahan, and Charles R “Rick” Buffington IV and his wife Amy, her 5 grandchildren: Zachary Edgerton (19), Maddie Buffington (18), Christopher Manahan (15), Ella Buffington (14), and Katelyn Manahan (13), 6 sisters: Joanne Rees, Judie McGlinchey, Michele Foster, Barb Stillson and her husband Phil, Paula Fields and her husband Denny, and Beki Paulus and her husband Mark, 11 nieces and nephews: Jeff McGlinchey, Bryan Foster, Kevin Rees, Ryan Coy, Diane Rees, Brad Foster, Rick McGlinchey, Carrie Repaich, Jenni Stillson, Eric Paulus, and Jason Paulus, and numerous extended family members and friends. Pat grew up in Mishawaka, IN and graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1964. Not long after graduating, Pat moved to Virginia. While living in Virginia she was a switchboard telephone operator. It was in Virginia where she met the father of her children, Rick, while he was in AIT for the U.S. Army Reserves. From there Pat moved to San Antonio, TX and eventually settled in Houston, TX. During her time in Houston, she worked in multiple industries, but primarily was an apartment manager for most of her career. Pat enjoyed volunteering at church, taking care of her kitties, donating to animal shelters, talking with her sisters, visiting her grandchildren, and spending time with her children. Pat had the kindest heart. It pained her to see others hurting. She was always thinking of others before herself, often sacrificing her own needs and wants in order take care of someone else's. Pat loved to laugh, and it was so infectious it would brighten a room. She will be dearly missed by many but gives us comfort knowing we have a tender-hearted guardian angel looking out for us. A memorial service will be held Saturday November 13, 2021, at 11:00 AM at Dettling Funeral Home 14094 Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77079, with reception to follow.
