Rebecca Mitchell Mason

June 16, 1957 - January 17, 2018

Rebecca (Becky) Mitchell Mason, beloved wife, mother and friend, passed away on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at the age of 60, due to complications from cancer. Becky is survived by her husband Michael Mason, their two children; son Justin, daughter Megan and her husband Ian McClintic. She is also survived by her mother Evelyn Mitchell, her four sisters and two brothers; Mary (Char) Mitchell, Julie Turner, Martha Drake, Christy King, Bill Mitchell and Mike Mitchell. Becky was preceded in death by her father William (Bill) Mitchell. Becky was born on June 16, 1957 in Lexington, Kentucky. There she attended Mary Queen of the Holy Rosary. At the age of ten her family moved to Austin (July 1967) with IBM, where she attended Lucy Reed Elementary, Burnet Junior High and Anderson High School (Graduation Class of 1975). While at Anderson she was a member of the marching band, playing the clarinet. She met Mike in high school through a mutual friend and started dating. Becky then went on to attend Texas State University (SWTSU) graduating with a degree in Journalism. She was a proud member of the Alpha Delta Pi (ADPi) Sorority, were she held the Treasurer position and was a little sister with the Pi Kappa Alpha (Pike) Fraternity. Becky married her high school sweetheart on May 12, 1979 immediately following the completion of their senior year in college. This allowed her to have her closest friends and sorority sisters participate in their wedding. Becky and Mike remained happily married (almost 39 years) until her passing. Becky always said Mike was the love of her life. As a loving, beautiful wife and mother her pride and joy were her children, Justin and Megan. She was active in volunteer work at all the schools the children attended, including substitute teaching, working at the school front office and PTO President at Copeland. When Mike’s job had him in a different city, Becky excelled at taking on both parenting roles, including sports coach during the week. Never complaining, she rose to the challenge to create a loving bond and lasting friendship with each of her children. The kind of relationship all parents hope and dream to have. Although Becky worked for several companies throughout the years (Texas Air Control Board, IBM, Etc.), she always considered her most important job was raising her children. Following the birth of her first child, Justin, she discontinued her conventional job with IBM to focus on her new family. After raising her children, she returned to work with her own organizing and design business, which she loved to do. In addition to her organizing and design business, she took on additional opportunities most notably ACE Hardware and Little Eclectic House where she made great friendships at both. Becky was a born caregiver and was the glue to which held her family together. She had immaculate taste and knew exactly what to say or do in every situation. You always knew where you stood with her. She was honest and she wouldn’t have had it any other way. She loved with all her heart and was fiercely protective of her family. She was a wonderful friend and was there whenever you needed her, typically with something delicious she had made in tow. She will be deeply missed. A SPECIAL ACKNOWLEDGEMENT: For those wonderful friends and family members that shared their love with Becky. Thank you so much. Your friendships meant more to her than you will ever know. GOD BLESS you all. FUNERAL INFORMATION: Becky will be celebrated on Friday, February 2, 2018 at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church (11507 Huffmeister Rd, Houston, TX 77065). There will be a Rosary in the Chapel preceding the service to start at 10:30 am for those who would like to join. The Funeral Mass will begin following the Rosary at 11:00 am in the Chapel. Reception will follow at the church. In addition to the customary remembrances, please consider contributions in Becky's memory to the Ronald McDonald House at: https://www.rmhhouston.org/donate/
