Richard Glenn Nancarrow Jr.

August 25, 1923 - February 19, 2017

Richard G. Nancarrow, Jr. 88, of Houston passed away Sunday, February 19, 2017. Mr. Nancarrow was born August 25, 1928 in Richmond, IN to Richard and Katherine Nancarrow. He is preceded in death by his parents and his daughter Cynthia Nancarrow. Richard is survived by his wife of 60 years, Shirley Nancarrow; his daughter, Leslie Brege; his grandchildren, Max Palmatier and Renee’ Reynolds; and his great granddaughter, Scarlett Palmatier. He is also survived by his siblings, Mary McGarry, Gerald Nancarrow, and Pamela Buck. Richard grew up in the Indiana area, and at the age of eighteen he joined the Army to eventually become a sergeant and a member of the CIC during the Korean affair. He attended Purdue University in Lafayette, IN where he earned his Masters of Mechanical Engineering. He began his career in sales with Roots Connersville Blowers and then spent 33 years with Dresser Industries where he became a sales manager. Richard began Nancarrow and Company Meters in 1987 before retiring. During his early career he traveled the USA coast to coast and eventually settled in Houston in 1970 where he raised his family. Richard and Shirley were long time members of Memorial Drive United Methodist Church where Richard served as usher for many years. Professionally, Richard was an excellent salesman who enjoyed being on the road. Personally, he was a real people person who never met a stranger. He loved playing golf where he made a hole in one at Bear Creek Golf World. Richard was also an excellent pilot and encouraged his wife Shirley to get her pilots license. They owned their own plane and enjoyed taking trips together. Any memorial service will be decided at a later date.
