Virginia (Vickie) Ortiz Bowen 80, of Houston, TX passed away August 29, 2021. Virginia was born October 11, 1940, in Mazatlan, Mexico to Manuel and Lucia Ortiz. She is preceded in death by her husband Julian Bowen, with whom she celebrated 37 years of marriage. She is survived by her children: Linda Bowen, Lillian Bowen Osowski and Monica Bowen. Son-in-law: Michael Osowski, Grandsons: Connor, Dylan and Walter Osowski. Her siblings: Carmen Ortiz, Gloria Groselfinger, Pedro Ortiz, and nieces and nephews. Virginia (Vickie) grew up in Villa Union, a small village in the state of Sinaloa, Mexico. With immense courage she worked her way to Tijuana, Mexico where she met Julian, and he captured her heart. After a long-distance courtship, they married and settled down in Plant City, Florida. Within a few years, they were blessed with three daughters. Vickie’s joy was caring for her children and grandchildren. She was a splendid hostess, and everyone enjoyed her outstanding cooking. She prepared food for her family, friends, and even the family pets. Vickie was an avid cheerleader at her children’s (and grandchildren’s) practices, swim meets, sports games, recitals and countless school functions. Vickie enjoyed gardening, sewing, listening to mariachi music, watching football, watching lacrosse, going to the beach, spending time with family and friends and playing with her pets. She especially enjoyed cooking for, and with, her family. When she came to Florida she didn’t speak any English, but still became involved in the Catholic Church, the Garden Club, the Junior League Club and the Plant City Women’s Club. She built a network of special friends, whom she treasured always. Vickie will always be remembered for her timeless elegance and poise. She took pride in presenting herself in a polite and refined manner. She greeted everyone with a friendly smile and a loving embrace. She was spunky, sweet, sunny and warm. She was supportive, encouraging and loving. She exuded kindness to everyone.
