Virginia Kathryn McHugh Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

On March 02, 2022, Virginia Kathryn McHugh, age 96, passed away peaceful under hospice care at Houston Hospice in Houston, TX. Virginia was the second of three daughters born to George K. and Hazel J. (nee Lee) Mills in Rice Lake, WI. Always an outstanding student, Virginia skipped one grade while attending Lincoln Elementary School. After graduating from Rice Lake High School in 1943, she continued her education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, receiving her BS degree in 1947. While in Madison, Virginia met her future husband, Daniel Francis McHugh, following an introduction by his older brother, Jack McHugh. Virginia and Dan were married June 26, 1951, at St Joseph Catholic Church in Rice Lake. Their attendants were the bride’s older sister, Ruth Mills, and Jack McHugh. Following a wedding trip to Ely, MN, the young couple made their home in Roanoke, VA, where the first three of their five children were born. Throughout their marriage, Dan’s career necessitated several cross-country moves, eventually leading them to Louisville, KY, in 1977. In 2014, due to their advancing ages, Virginia and Dan relocated to Houston, TX, to be closer to sons Patrick, Terrence, and their families. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Daniel, and her sisters, Ruth Mills Dietrich and Georgia Mills Stanton. She is survived by her children, Casey (Gardnar O’Brien), Patrick (Sylvia), Terrence, Daniel (Lisa), and David (Adriano); grandsons, Patrick, Zachary, Michael, Cameron, George, Sean, and Conan McHugh; granddaughters, Bridget O’Brien and Carly McHugh Petty (Casey). A private graveside service will take place on March 15, 2022, where Virginia will be laid to rest alongside her husband, Dan, at Houston National Cemetery in Houston.
