Yolanda A. Easley
June 8, 1940 - November 27, 2017
Yolanda A. Easley died at her home in Houston on November 27th, 2017. Born on June 8, 1940 in Harlingen, Texas, Yolanda earned a Bachelor of Education from Texas Women’s University and a Masters of Education from The University of Houston. Yolanda’s career began as an elementary school teacher in HISD in the 1960s, but later became a high school counselor, meticulously guiding students through their required curriculum, retiring from HISD in 2004. A passionate Houston Oiler fan during the “Luv Ya Blue” era, she lived most of her adult life in Houston. Yolanda enjoyed gardening, tennis, reading newspapers, her Chihuahua Buffy, eating Mexican sweet bread, especially empanadas, and lots of assorted candies. She left this life with a bang, having visited China to attend her beloved nephew’s, Ryan Prestwood, wedding in October. She was fiercely independent to the end, but whose memory will be embraced for many years. Yolanda is survived by her loving sisters, Ruth Rangel, Noemi Bonker, Gloria Prestwood; her brothers, Neftali Aguilar, Abel Aguilar, Danny Aguilar, Rolando Aguilar; her cousins Robert Serra and John Serra, who she adored like brothers; and their spouses as well as countless nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is predeceased by her parents; her brothers Caleb and Raul Aguilar; her dear aunt Josefa “Chepa” Serra and her precious canine companion, Buffy. A special thanks to her sister and brother in law, Gloria and Glenn Prestwood, who patiently and lovingly cared for her during her final months.
