Anitra Fields Elkhatib

Anitra Fields Elkhatib returned to her Savior on Wednesday, March 27, 2024. After braving an extended battle with cancer, she passed away peacefully surrounded by family. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Stroud and Lois Fields. She is survived by her sister Stephanie Fields, nephew Anthany Credit, daughter Yasmin (Jason), son Adam (Danielle), daughter Amira, grandchildren Jack, Claire, Norah, and Grant, and Ahmad Elkhatib, father of Anitra’s children who lovingly cared for her until the end. Anitra was born on May 27, 1954, in Wichita, Kansas and grew up in Bentonville, Arkansas. She attended the University of Arkansas, where she earned a finance degree. She remained a lifelong, rabid fan of Arkansas athletics, as well as the LSU Tigers, the alma mater of her children Amira and Adam. Anitra spent the first twenty years of her professional career working in the accounting department of Cockrell Oil Corporation, where she fostered lifelong friendships. Then, she left the private sector to embrace various roles within the Alief Independent School District for over twenty years. Most recently, she was employed as the assistant director of nutrition services, where she oversaw accounting and the federal meals program for the district. She left an indelible impression on Alief ISD and cherished her mission to improve the financial position of the schools for which she served. In 2020, she made her final professional shift, leaving the workforce to become a full-time “GiGi” to her beloved grandchildren. She loved nothing more than spoiling her Jack (7), Claire (6), Norah (4), and Grant (1) by filling their bellies with cookies and hearts with love. There is no purer pride than that which GiGi felt for her grandkids. Her favorite place in the world was in a comfy chair with an excellent book. A voracious reader throughout her life, she had a reputation for finishing books within a few days. She possessed a quiet and calming spirit, embodying the sentiment that you should listen twice as much as you speak. She loved to eat TexMex and often could be found enjoying fajitas and a margarita at Ninfa’s on a Friday night. Outside her family, her greatest love was for her Lord and Savior. A woman of ferocious faith, she recently undertook the Sacrament of Confirmation, ensuring her eternal reward. The Elkhatib family will accept friends for visitation Monday April 1, 2024, from 6:00PM to 8:00PM with a Rosary at 7:00PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be the following morning April 2, 2024, at 10:30AM at St. John Vianney Catholic Church 625 Nottingham Oaks Trail Houston, TX 77079 with reception to follow in St. Jude Hall. Anitra will be laid to rest by her family following reception at Memorial Oaks Cemetery.
