Mary Elizabeth Landholt

Mary Elizabeth Landholt, 94, of Houston, Texas, went to be with the Lord on October 25, 2025, passing peacefully, surrounded by her loving husband and lifted in the prayers and love of her family. Born on September 3, 1931, to Louis Santoyo and Michaela Hurtado Santoyo, Mary grew up in a home filled with joy, devotion, and the lively bond of twelve siblings. Enriched by her Catholic faith from childhood, she developed a deep love for the Sacred Heart—spending time listening to The Sacred Heart News Hour with her father, who instilled in her a lifelong devotion to Christ. The faith formed in those early years carried and guided her throughout her life. Mary proudly graduated from Notre Dame High School in St. Louis and remained a faithful supporter of the Sisters of Notre Dame. Her life reflected her generous spirit and servant’s heart. She shared her gift for helping others through charitable support of the Salvation Army, Sacred Heart Missions of Mississippi, and St. John Vianney Catholic Church, where she and her husband, Don, were devoted parishioners for 54 years. Mary’s spirit was joyful, warm, and full of life. One of her greatest passions was dancing, and it was at a dance hall in St. Louis where she met the love of her life, Don Landholt. Together they shared 69 years of marriage, four daughters, six grandchildren, and countless treasured memories. Mary and Don enjoyed traveling together throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe, visiting all 50 states—Vermont being Mary’s favorite, where they returned often. They shared decades of friendships and fellowship through Shell Oil, St. John Vianney, and their beloved Wilchester West neighborhood, where they lived for over 50 years. Mary embraced life fully and loved being involved. She and Don were longtime members of the Shell Oil Couples Bridge Club; Mary also enjoyed the Ladies Bridge Club, bowling leagues, and especially the Fabulous 50s group at St. John Vianney. There she lovingly earned the nickname “the play lady” for organizing outings to theatre performances followed by meals with friends — bringing joy, community, and celebration wherever she went. Family was the heart of Mary’s world. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, she poured love into every milestone and moment. She organized family reunions, planned surprise celebrations, and delighted in making holidays — especially Christmas — magical. She traveled with Don to visit their grandchildren for birthdays, graduations, sacraments, and every special achievement, always adding thoughtful touches that made each person feel cherished. Her home, her decorations, and her presence carried warmth, hospitality, and grace. Mary’s legacy is one of faith, family, generosity, and joy. Her bright spirit, love for Christ, and devotion to those she loved will be forever remembered and deeply missed by her family, friends, neighbors, and parish community. Mary’s love lives on through her husband, Don; their children: Carolyn Landholt, Laura Seabury (Tom), Diane Cruiseturner (David † 2014), Janet Baldwin and her cherished grandchildren: Grant (Jen), Dustin, Brett (Caitlin), Brian, Alicia, and Kevin (Colleen). She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings: Rachel (George), Louis Jr. (Dorothy), Theresa (Carl), Raul (Dorothy), Abigail, Ben (Del), Joe (Corian), Saul, Richard (Marion), David (Jackie — living), and John (Carol). A Vigil and Visitation will be held at Dettling Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, from 4:00–7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass celebrating Mary’s life will follow at St. John Vianney Catholic Church on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at 10:30 a.m., with reception and burial procession to follow. “Well done, good and faithful servant… enter into the joy of your Lord.” — Matthew 25:23
