Olga Marquez Duarte

On November 7, 2014, as God granted us a brand new day, he called to his heavenly home our beloved mother Olga Marquez Duarte. She passed away peacefully at her home of over 60 years. She was surrounded by the love and light of her family. Olga was born August 17, 1926 in Ciudad Madero, Tamaulipas, Mexico to Mrs. Adelaida Madrigal Marquez and Mr. Lorenzo T. Marquez. Shortly after her birth, the family moved to Mexico City, D.F. Olga spent her youth growing up in this busy city. During this time, she learned to love and pray to the Virgen de Guadalupe and was guided by her all the days of her life. Each time she returned to Mexico City, her first visit was to the sacred shrine to leave a bouquet of flowers. At the side of her mother, sisters, and family friends; she learned to cook beautiful regional Mexican cuisine. She was an excellent cook all her life and could create magical meals for all her children, even when times were lean. As her hands grew tired, she could still expertly dice her fruits and vegetables. When Olga was a teenager her family moved once more to Nuevo Laredo, Mexico. Her father Lorenzo insisted that our mother learn a skill and had her take flower making lessons. She mastered this skill and made the most lovely paper flowers. Her flowers were expertly handcrafted and looked like fresh flowers. She made bridal bouquets and floral decorations for numerous events in Laredo. She had expert hands for so many crafts, crocheting baby booties for all her grandchildren and great grandchildren. On January 26th 1946 Olga married her sweetheart Juan Duarte Jr. Their love and union produced eight children; the first of which, Armando, she has joined in heaven. She leaves her seven surviving children to honor her memory: Margarita Gutierrez, Agelia Durand, Haidee Bucher, Olga Rosa Garcia, Juan Jesus Duarte, Xenia Hallaway and Eduardo Duarte. She also leaves many heartbroken grandchildren, great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandsons. Olga is also survived by her loving Sisters Sonia Guzman, Agelia Perez and Elena Garcia as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. A Funeral Mass celebrating Mrs. Duarte’s life will be held Friday, November 14, 2014 at 10:00 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 4918 Cochran St., Houston, TX 77009. A reception will follow holy mass on the church grounds.
