Vallery Reid Cowden

Vallery Reid Cowden. Born June 29, 1961 to Don and Maurine Reid in Alice, Texas. In His Presence February 3, 2021. On first glance, Vallery was petite and unassuming. Then those Tiffany blue eyes locked in, a smile emerged, and sparkle took over. She was a dear friend to many, the delight of her parents, and the only one for Lee. They married on November 26, 1994 at First Baptist Spring Branch in Houston. Vallery attended school in Alice, Texas and upon finishing high school, she attended and graduated from Southwest Texas State University. She is survived by Lee, her husband of 26 years, parents Don and Maurine Reid, her brother Wade Reid and wife Diana, her niece Sarah Reid, in-laws Milton and Edra Cowden, sister-in-law Terri Ward, nephew Chris Barrett, great nephew Gavin Barrett, and great niece Alyssa Barrett. Vallery spent her entire career in the legal profession as a paralegal, legal assistant and office manager. She enjoyed quilting and knitting. She also competed in obedience training with her beloved German Shepherd, Zoe, where they learned from each other and formed an unbreakable bond. People were important to Vallery and her gifts of service and administration were evident to those around her. Her faith in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior defined her life. She embraced the Grace given to her and lovingly, faithfully, generously yet gently shared with others its source. She and Lee could often be found at their church, Second Baptist, any day or evening of the week. Faithfully at her volunteer secretarial post, Vallery gave a huge smile and gracious welcome to every person who attended All About Him Bible study class on Saturday afternoons. And she loved to sing! Worship for Vallery took many forms, but when she sang, she personified joy. She is now living the words of a favorite song, “But just think of stepping on shore and finding it Heaven! Of touching a hand and finding it God’s! Of breathing new air and finding it celestial! Of waking up in glory and finding it home!” A memorial service to celebrate Vallery’s life will be held at Second Baptist Church in the Sanctuary, 6400 Woodway, Houston, Texas 77057 Thursday March 4, 2021 at 1:00 PM.
